De winterizing

De winterizing is more than just adding water and going camping.

It is a process to ensure you have a successful camping season.

When I de winterize I start with flushing the freadh water system. Once it has been flushed I run water through all plumbing fixtures and check for leaks.

I then run the water heater for proper function and check for leaks.

I often find leaks in fittings, faucets or a burst water heater. It is highly recommended to de winterize several weeks before a planned vacation to make sure these get repaired in time.

I then move on to other appliances. I test the furnace, air conditioner and refrigerator. And appliances that are not functioning properly get repaired right away.

Once the appliances are checked I move onto the electric side. I check the battery voltage and connections to make sure everything is ready. I found some battery connections super corroded to the point the cables needed new ends. Often batteries do not get filled with distilled water as well.

I then move onto the tires to make sure they are torqued properly and filled to the correct pressure. This is a good time to repack the bearings if they are due.

This is a perfect opportunity to check the roof to determine if the seals are needing attention. I did find a small tear in the roof material on one trailer this year. An easy repair that would have gotten very expensive if it was not fixed right away.

As always, if you have a question or want to schedule service just fill out a service request form and happy camping!
